You don't necessarily have to be in either field to give advice. I'm more interested in the career aspect of it. I love higher education, am on my second degree and quite frankly don't want to leave.
Would help if you could indicate which country you're in and what your field is. I'm presently in Australia.

** I have just realised my misspelling of the word 'recommend'. Can I plead 'study brain' on this one?**

I'm not sure how schools down under hire their professors, but in the U.S. it's nearly imperative to get your Ph.D. if you want a career in academia.

Said jobs are great. They pay quite well and they'll always be around. If you can't be a full professor or you don't make the cut on the tenure-track, you are typically very qualified to do other things within your field.

However, you have to love research. You can't have a job in academia if you don't generate new knowledge. Doing so requires a passion for (or at the very least, an ability to perform) exceptional research.

Hi, I am in the US, and my Master's Degree is in German. I currently teach High School because I truly loathed the political aspect of the college level & I prefer working with teenagers, particularly preparing them for college (I believe most teachers at the secondary level over here do NOT do a good job with this!). I do not know how it is in Australia, but besides the terrible political games over here, publishing seems far more important than actually teaching anyone anything. Added to that in my field, if you are a non-native speaker, you will obtain lower grades while working towards your degree and it is much harder to obtain a job. This last part does not apply to you though. I would say that if you are enjoying yourself and successful in your academic field, who cares what anyone else says? Oh and don't forget to NETWORK! Good luck
