I dont know about your second statement, however, capitalism run rampant does cause oppression. If you want a clear cut example of this, take a look at South Africa. If your conservative think tank talk heads will allow you to do so.

You look at the state of our country today, socially of course, and you see many problems, most of which revolve around the free market that we have in this country.

Now, I am not saying that capitalism is bad, because it isn't, but what I am saying is that it needs to be kept in check. A mixed economy is the best thing for this country.

I have no clue, because all the most oppressed people have been in communist or socialist societies with really strong government controls. Government controls also give less not more freedom. Capitalism allows a person to get what they earn and hopefully keep it.

Capitalism creates oppression because it is a system based on exploitation. A quick example: we hope to purchase items/services at the cheapest price possible, but the seller hopes to sell items/services at the highest price possible. Profit is created when the seller derives more value from the sale of an item/service than the item/service is actually worth, and success under capitalism is based upon profit. Simply put, capitalism only works because labor is exploited by being undervalued for less than it is worth to create profit from the extra value. Technically, paying more than something is worth is exploitation of the buyer, and paying less than something is worth is exploitation of the seller.

Big government is required to control profit and its distribution, which in late-stage capitalism is spiraling out of control as was expected and predicted by most liberals and Marxists alike. As corporations and persons consolidate wealth, more power is centered around a single small group of individuals, and these individuals continue to grow their wealth while most of the rest of the populace are required to work for them, at whatever wages they decide. Government does not necessarily get larger, but does take over more and more systems--health care and energy, for instance--as it is forced to by its citizens, who are increasingly unable to live in prosperity as fewer and fewer individuals control the distribution of wealth and power.

liberals don't believe that capitalism creates oppression and that big government creates prosperity. we do, however, tend to agree that when corporate america has the government in it's pocket and the richest in the country (who typically run corporate america and contribute the most to campaigns) get the best tax breaks, the largest group of americans - the middle class - suffers. without some sort of government regulation, be it tax reform or laws regulating certain business practices (i.e. price gouging), the gap between rich and poor will continue to grow.

Well, because they lived through the depression, which all acknowledge is created by natural cycles of capitalism, and all saw that government intervention helped raise the standard of living for all people.

Because they were people like my greatgrandfather, a PA coal miner tossed out of company housing, owing his soul to the company store, when a lifetime of working on his knees in their horrible mines crippled him. Life was better for his kids when the unions could finally take hold (first over the lethal objection of our govt and then with the protection of it) and a person could finally get a decent living for a hard working life.

Because liberals aren't duped fools we know that hard work by many creates prosperity. Capitalism allows a few to steal virtually all of the fruits of that work, govt can allow the workers to reclaim a fairer share of the prosperity their labor created - or, as under Bush, govt can help corporate power further screw the worker (check credit card rates eg)

To find out anything liberals believe you have to examine the premise. The very initial bit of reasoning, they base their argument on. it will be a lie. The father of all lies teaches them if a rich person has a dollar, he stole it from someone who no longer has the dollar. Of course, quite the opposite is true. In a free market society, if you sell a loaf of bread for a dollar, the person who buys the bread values the bread more than the dollar and you value the dollar more than the loaf of bread. Both are winners. But to go fatter into the analogy the dollar didn't vanish. You have it. You spend it on flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. and the person who bought the bread sold you the yeast. Now, he has the dollar.

Ok so we have someone who needs bread. Instead of you hiring him the government taxes the dollar and buys the bread for him. How wonderful for him; but you have no money to spend on yeast.

They believe capitalism creates oppression because they believe a lie. They are ruled by the father of all lies who tells them to envy the rich and steel his money. He runs all the way to the bank with this lie.

making an excuse for lack of drive, ambition or work ethic.
You'll notice the ones who are living the largest on capitalism are the ones complaining the most. How would angelina jolie or any one of her kind feel about being told @ 9 that they were going to work in an armaments factory because that's what mother Russia needed.

TRY OPENING A HISTORY BOOK ONCE IN YOUR LIFE...

the U.S. is no where near pure capitalism...

and you wouldn't want to EVER, EVER, EVER live in any country that came even close to it... if you've ever looked into countries that are close...

of course you're just repeating propaganda and don't really undserstand what captialism really is... so, it's no big deal...
