I have a compaq computer. I set the user password in my bios so when my computer boots up it would require that password. It is not asking for it though even though the bios shows it as being set. Can someone please help me with fixing this problem

You can set a password in BOS by doing this.

1. turn on your computer.
2. press F1 or F2 or F3 function key ( but you have to choose the right function key for that, inorder for you to go inside the compaq bios. ) after pressing the power on button (this will bring you inside the BIOS)
3. just look for the password seting. Just look for the password setting and dont change anything aside from the password. BECAREFUL OK!!!! Then after doing this, go to exit tab or press escape (esc) then save.

If the F1 to F3 didn't work, try F10.

nicely if the password is to log into homestead windows, use PCLoginNow. All you may desire to do it burn it to a cd and boot from it. regardless of if that's a BIOS password, then you definately can attempt unplugging the computing device and removing the BIOS battery. that's a lithium battery and it sounds like a watch battery.

For most systems, the password you set in BIOS is not for logging onto the computer, it is for getting into BIOS to make changes. Since most of the operating systems used today are very password secure, it is not necessary to have one just to get onto the computer itself. Just use the one for your operarting system (Windows, Linux, etc.).

A password in dos is very smart..It keeps hackers out . I use a compaq w / dos password protection..you should have to type it in apon every start up. If it's not doing that ..its a problem. ..better find out why !...wish I could help more.
