I have not been since I was 19 and I am soon 31.

I have never had a cavity, that I know of.

Do you think it is really necessary to see the dentist every year?

why or why not?

ALSO, IF ANY UK PEOPLE OVER THERE ARE STILL AWAKE , I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW MANY TIMES THE TYPICAL UK RESIDENT VISITS THE DENTIST?

IS THIS SOMETHING THE MEDICAL INDUSTRY IN THE US IS ONLY PUSHING OR IS THAT ALSO IN THE UK?

I used to visit the dentist every 6 months until I moved out, and was off my parents insurance. Now I don't have insurance and haven't gone in two years. My teeth are fine.

My boyfriend went about 8 years without visiting the dentist because he didn't have insurance. EVERYTHING went wrong. His wisdom teeth grew in and crowded his mouth, and all of his back molars started rotting. It got soo painful that just a few months ago he had to visit the dentist, and we had to pay our of our pockets to get all of those teeth removed, because there was no way to save them. If he DID have insurance, and continued to go like once a year he could have avoided this. So I think it depends on the person (my boyfriend just has bad teeth). But if you have insurance, I DO think you should visit the dentist once a year, just to avoid a problem like my boyfriend had.

I go every 6 months and the dentist keeps saying that I'm one of the luckiest people as I have,as he puts it,one of the best sets he's ever seen, someone said something about flossing I can't because there are absolutely no gaps between the teeth that I can get the floss into in a flossing kind of way Usual spaces at the bases but cant slide anything down between them,he also says there like solid rock(must be the caveman in me )

I live in the UK, and I go to the dentist every 9 months - it used to be every 6 months but because my teeth are 'OK' it was switched. I think it is important to see the dentist on a 'regular' basis so that they can pick up on any possible problems and sort them out.

Every 6 months for cleanings/checkup. Then once a year I get complete x-rays of my teeth/jaw structure.

For me, yes, it was necessary -- but that is because I had problems from birth with the structure of my jaws .. and all of my teeth came in impacted (and horribly out of place). Had all my wisdom teeth removed by surgery (they grew in wrong too), and while in the Military -- mandatory exam every 6 months (part of our health care).

Now .. as a Military Retiree .. and the person whose income paid the Dental Insurance -- my children were examined every 6 months, along with myself. I'm now an Empty-Nesting Single Retiree .. and STILL have my natural teeth!

So it does help -- because by MY age .. my own parents already had been in dentures for at least a decade ... and that is the truth. I'm just glad that I've had the exams and care .. because it looks like I'll have my natural teeth for a long time yet!

The british have very bad teeth.
I have not been to the dentist in years - I should really go before they all fall out. I went about 2/3 years ago - they drilled a bunch of holes in my teeth - and filled them up with ... i dont know what, anyway - later this stuff fell out - my teeth are in a really bad state but im not going back there because, well look at what they did before - I wouldnt have all these holes in my teeth if it weren't for them.

** edit **

and it cost me a fortune !

I like to go at least once a year for a good cleaning-the dentist comes in-compliments me on my teeth and says he can't believe how well I keep them.
I'm really OCD when it comes to teeth and bad breath- That's the first thing I look at when I lood at a person is how well they keep their teeth clean. I like them white too.
Second I look at their shoes to see if they are clean.
I brush at least 10 times or possibly more a day.

Twice a year. Peridontal disease runs in the family, and twice a year cleanings help keep it at bay, along with flossing, and brushing.

One of the reasons to see a dentist, lots of illnesses can start with poor dental hygiene. Heart disease, for example.
