If its a desktop I would try a few things:

1.make sure the speakers are connected properly and that the speaker volume and the computer volume are turned up.

2. restart it

3. try going online to reinstall the sound card software either from the pc manufacturers website or the sound card manufacturers site.

4. if you are brave enough, open the case and unplug the sound card from the pci slot and reinsert it (!!!!Caution: if you attempt this step, when you open the case make sure to touch the side of the case before removing the card and often while in the case as to prevent static build up, which can fry a motherboard)

You either have no sound card (in which case take it right back) or your missing audio drivers. Go to your my computer icon and right click, select manage, and go to device manager. In the tree on the right side of the console that opens, check and see if you have any yellow question marks on any devices. If so, your missing drivers for that item (most likey your sound card) In which case you just need to find out the manufactor of the sound card and download the drivers. That should fix your problem.

Double check A. speakers are powered up and plugged into the right hole. B. Audio software is turned ON in the control panel.

Just bought my new 500GB Seagate drive, with 5 year warranty, from Newegg.com, for $139.99 delivered. Ordered on Tuesday, here on Friday.

http://pclinuxos.com install took me about 30 minutes, and was FREE. Includes 5500 FREE programs: games, apps. ,browsers, multimedia programs... but, not one of the "114,000 Microsoft Virus Definitions" that killed your drive.

They may not have loaded the sound drivers. Go to the manufacture of your sound card and look for the latest driver for it. Download is and install it. That should correct your problem (assuming that they connected everything properly when installing your new HD)
