Recently I have heard a great deal of noise about how, in some people's opinion, Answers members at Level 3 and under should not be able to report abuse. What's your opinion on this and why?
This is where my own opinionated streak emerges... NO way. I am a level 2, I have been an active Answers member for 8 months. I have always helped people and this has included reporting racist and other foul abuse. The reason I am not higher than level 2 is because I work 50 hours a week and also have hobbies, so I simply don't have time to sit here working my way up through levels. Why the hell should this fact mean that I am unable to report abuse?
That is extremely unfair to those level 1s and 2s who are here to help and want to become part of the answers community. No way am I queing up behind anyone else simly because they have more points than me (which they could have earned by spamming and/or giving inappropriate or one word answers anyway).
What say you?

Country - it doesn't make a blind biut of difference to me whether they have been here for months of for 5 minutes. A troll is a troll is a troll.

I am sorry you feel that we are wasting your precious time on Yahoo answers. Maybe you should try different sections on Y!Answers as some areas are riddled with 'trolls'.
Just ignore them, we all have suffered under the hands of a 'troll' or a mystery 'thumbs down' or Reporter who disn't like our question/answer for no reason.
I think we all should be free to vote, report and all that even under level 3 but I think we just have to wait until Yahoo Answers come up with a better way to control the system and make it work better for us all.
Good luck and have a nice day. Don't dwell on it too much, its just numbers really. I don't mind being a level 1 or 2 or 3.... because I know if I am at level 8 I'll quit.

I agree with you it should be down to YA to sort out the Trolls they are the ones with ALL the information and should properly check each report that is made especially if someone seems to be reporting excessively and for no reason. At the moment I am in discussion with them about getting points returned and a joke I posted to be re-posted and I've found out something interesting. When someone reports YA just deletes automatically and don't keep a record of what's been deleted so when you try to appeal they don't have any clue (apparently) of what the reported content was so unless you keep a copy of the reported page you're screwed..Death to the Trolls........(by the way I haven't been here very long and I'm not familiar with some of the terms used so why are they called trolls)

That would be like saying a child can't report abuse to the police because they are only young. Everybody should have an equal voice on here and in the world.
Taking away the right to report abuse would be stupid when new members have every right to feel offended.
Abuse needs to be redefined on here though. A home is only a home because of those who abide in it and the things you put in it. It works the same here. What makes Y!A good isn't the Yahoo name or the structure of the site - it's the huge variety of people...strangers that make it fun.
It's the truly offensive questions and answers which should get violated not the comic rude ones or the short answers.
Anyway that's what I think and so does my cat.

you've got to think of yahoo answers as an automated system - you do get people on here who seem to strike up these vendettas against people - normally top contributors and report them over and over for no good reason until their account is closed - although these same people reporting are giving extremly offensive and provacative comments on almost every answer they give - they dont care if their account get closed - they never get over level 1 anyway they just open a new one. The reporting system is automated - Im not sure if you can appeal or anything like that - So....... Anyone can come on here a get YOU chucked off.. Is that fair ?

Maybe it would help if it was restricted to level 3 and above. You may have a good record and be a useful member, but there are a lot of young kids who build up masses of points in a short time. Those people should have to have maturity and I reckon ,in general , it would be an advantage to make them get to level 3 before they can report what they see, often wrongly, as abuse. When all is said and done though, it's only a game.

I agree with you, the reporting system should be open to all as we all have to start at level one. Not all of us are kids with nothing better to do than report non-abusive answers or questions. Getting to higher levels is very easy if your two points are earned for the frequently seen answer " Duh!"
It's the judgement of what is abusive that needs alteration not what level can participate!

Ignore the insults from trolls giving you grief over this, they're not worth you taking the time to respond.
I agree with you with you. I think you've made a good point on this one.
Edit: James M - a 'troll' intentionally posts derogatory/ inflammatory messages about sensitive topics in an established online community, to irritate and annoy users into responding.

You have a valid point,
i think they are trying to find ways of abolishing repeat reporters that report for the hell of it or those that have had accs closed down and have become bitter about it, hence why they think SOME lower level users may be to blame
But yes for the lower level users that are 'good users' this must be frustrating

Thats a valid question. I have been deleted at least twice but only because of a jealous person... it is not that it is because people that are new went around reporting people left and right... they were all under level 3.

I'm for it BECAUSE of the simple fact, that it wouldn't be as easy for a troll to report you..You said yourself that it has taken you 8 months to get where you are at.. How would you like it if someone kept reporting you until your account got deleted from a troll that has access to keep reporting you when they JUST made the account ?
