Yes. Also called "Pex" pipe. Used in new construction due to the extreme rise in the cost of copper pipe.

I hope so, it's the water supply piping that's primarily used in mobile homes.
Also, polybutylene is a form of plastic resin that was used extensively in the manufacture of water supply piping from 1978 until 1995. Due to the low cost of the material and ease of installation, polybutylene piping systems were viewed as "the pipe of the future" and were used as a substitute for traditional copper piping. It is most commonly found in the "Sun Belt" where residential construction was heavy through the 1980's and early-to-mid 90's, but it is also very common in the Mid Atlantic and Northwest Pacific states.

I'm pretty sure that it's been tested for safety.

There have however been other concerns about using polybutylene. You may want to visit this website for further questions about it;

Additionally, I live in a cold climate area (NYS) and I have used polybutylene for the past 14 years without any issues.
Not sure why your asking, but another very popular (and inexpensive) plumbing material choice right now is PEX (which is NOT the same thing as polybutylene);

Take care.

Yes, its perfectly safe. They had many problems with the original connection system that leaked badly. But the new ones are fine. I have a pair on my water heater for about 17years now without problems.

PEX is different it means Crosslinked Poly Ethylene

"Pex" tubing is perfectly fine to use as drinking water line. It has been used as for years in remodels and now new construction.
