I can't afford to have a lawyer do a living trust. I really need one done, because I have a daughter and stepkids. I have heard a will would have to go through probate court. Is there anyway besides a lawyer to do a living trust?

Got to legalzoom.com These are forms done by lawyers in the state you live in but they are much more reasonable than going to a lawyers office. May cost, I'm guessing, $200.00 as opposed to 600.00. Possibly less. I would always suggest a lawyer because if it is not done properly, your wishes will not be honored.

A will eliminates the probate problem. When you die without a will, you children may have to go back to the courts yearly to get anything and then the lawyers fee will take away from that. There is usually a 6 month period to allow people to file against the estate and that is why notices od death are put in the legal notices in newspapers. Try legal zoom.com and just check prices

If you really need a living trust, and I am convinced that most people don't, yes, you can do one for yourself. I believe the whole movement regarding people setting up living trusts started with a book by Norman F. Dacey entitled "How to Avoid Probate!" I believe your can purchase it from booksellers for less than $10.00.
