well any instrument is hard with braces. I play flute and when i got braces, i basically had to re-do my mouth everyday until i got used to them. the flute does use more air than anything else, even the tuba because half the air doesn't go in the horn. But with flute you can also play piccolo.(it has the same keys its just smaller and higher) I played clarinet for a while. The only downside to clarinets or any reed instrument is that you have to buy the reeds all the time and that could get expensive. But most reed instruments are so alike that you can switch around from sax to tenor sax to clarinet to bass clarinet.
I'm not real sure on brass. Trumpet seems popular because most of my band teachers have been trumpet players. But most brass mouth pieces are similar so you can switch from trumpet to french horn to tuba, etc. So if you want to learn mulitple later on go with the trumpet. lol and if your so worried about braces play violin, another string, or a percussion instrument. You don't need ur mouth for that!
hope i helped some...

Flute! I play flute and I love it! lol Your teacher will most likely let you try out a couple instruments since everybody will be beginners. You can play a few different ones, and stick with the one you like best. Pick the one which you feel comfortable with, and one who's sound you like instead of just going for what your friends choose. But don't buy an instrument until you are sure it is the right one for you or you will be stuck with it! I hear clarinet is the easiest, and it is also pretty similar to recorder, so you might want to try that one out.

Since you have braces, I would recommend clarinet. Be aware that they make guards for braces that make it easier to play trumpet.
The more popular the instrument, the more students that will want to play it. Makes the competition tougher.
Talk to your band instructor for advice and ask about the possibility of switching horns at a later date.
Whatever you pick, remember that you need to learn about music and making it....on any instrument.

I have two sons.
One played trumpet.
One played saxophone.
Today the trumpet player plays keyboard.
The saxophone player plays upright bass.
It does not matter which you choose.
What you learn in band can be transferred
to another instrument later in life!

don't play something because it is easy. anything worth having in this world is worth fighting for. play the one you like, not because it is easy but because it is you.

Try them all - you'll eventually find what suits you best, and what you learn on one instrument will not be wasted.
