It was a bit of a bad call to continue the match. Poor Sri Lanka had to prolong the agony, and poor Australia had to put their celebrations on hold. The conditions were so dark out there - as someone already mentioned, it was becoming quite dangerous for the batsmen. I'm glad the players got through the last few overs quickly but. Both teams did a good job of finishing the game off, even if the decision to do so was a poor one.

I was rather surprised that an Umpire who has umpired 4 world cup finals before failed to take decide the course of the game when bad light stopped play. When the batsmen accepted the light, the Umpires should have declared the play as over and result should have been declared based on D/L Method instead of asking the teams to come next day to complete 3 overs and then continue the play with the consent of Captains. Such irresponsible action on the part of the Umpires has brought shame to the world cup.

I really don't know who was to blame there. Once an umpire offers light to the batsmen, they are only supposed to allow the batsmen back on if the light has improved sufficiently. I suspect there was pressure either from the match referree (Jeff Crowe) or the organisers to get those last three overs played as the light clearly wasn't any better. Somebody's head should roll for putting those batsmen at risk, but I'm not convinced it should be Aleem Dar.

You've only JUST worked out that Dar is a numbnut? One would have thought that over the last 2 years there have been ample opportunities to work out that this bloke isn't up to scratch.
As far as Bucknor is concerned he is starting to be passed it and should retire back to the Carribean and sample some of the fine WI rum. Although after that WC final effort you could be forgiven for thinking he already has!

It seems that for some reason the umpires thought that the SL's had to bat another 3 overs otherwise everyone would have to come back tomorrow and finish off the game. The Sri Lankan's thought it was weird but decided that they didn't want to have to come back on Sunday for just those 3 overs.

Doesn't matter much now, cuz the best team won the world cup anyways. He may be dumbass or crap but he couldn't stop the Aussies from winning.
Congratulations Australia, the 'masters' of cricket.

It was complete farce! The umpire offered SL light but they declined. They ok Aussie for play (a thumb's up) and Australia thought it was 'you win' thing. Seeing thier celebrations everyone else thought the match's over. Then umpire clearifed and told them to either come back next day or carry on. Pointing talked to Jayawardene if he's ok with dim light b/c they don't want to come back for 3 dam overs tomorrow. So they carried on. I agree it was stupid...they should've let them enjoy!! But they celebrated nevertheless :) CONGRATS AUSSIES!!!!!!!!! WOOOHOOO!!!

McGrath would have loved to get another wicket or 2 to add to his record ... but in such bad light, Ponting put spin bowlers on for the last 3 overs.
And did you see Clarke's first run being disallowed?
The ump said Clarke ran on the pitch (3 steps) so allowed the ball, but not the runs
