I am a Canadian living in Mexico and have gone to Texas many times. Texas is very safe. Dallas is no more dangerous than any big city. It is incredible how Latin American television portrays the United States as so dangerous. If I didn't know better I would be nervous too! The media focuses on the negative since that is what gets most attention. You will be very safe in Dallas. It is a beautiful city. Don't let the media take away from what will be a fantastic adventure in Texas. Enjoy!

Places To Visit In Dallas

It is absolutely safe. I just visited there this past week, And I must say I was a little weary before arriving, because I didn't know what to expect. But it turns out I had nothing to worry about. Dallas has its bad spots, just like any other city. You just have to be aware of your surroundings and stay out of certain places. (As in some of the previous answers) If your looking for a good hotel. During my visit, I stayed at the La Quinta Inn & Suites(technically in Arlington) right next to Six Flags(literally across the street), and Ameriquest Field. It's quite a distance from downtown, and I'm sure there are hotels just as nice closer but it was very nice nevertheless. I enjoyed my visit, and look forward to going again soon. The local folks were great. We also made a visit to the stockyard district of Fort Worth, which was really cool. But we went at 9 at night on a Wednesday, so it wasn't exactly "Party central", But I'm sure on the weekends its a cool scene.

I have been to most major cities in North America but I am from Dallas and currently live near Dallas. Stay away from fair park and most areas near the CBD (downtown). Dealy plaza on the west side of downtown is relatively safe if you just have to see where Kennedy was shot but it is really nothing special. If you can stay near the Galleria (ask a good travel agent) that is nice. Las Colinas in the surburb of Irving is safe.
Even though I am from Dallas I'll will have to say downtown Fort Worth is a much better place to visit it is much more tourist friendly and safe with far fewer panhandlers to bother you.
You will find many very friendly people here, we aren't all redneck Bible thumping warmongers.

It's relatively safe in Dallas. I've lived here all my life, and have never run into an ounce of trouble. There are obviously the spots to avoid like every major city, but nothing to worry about at all.

I have traveled to Boston, San Antonio, Orlando, New Orleans, Chicago, and many, many times to Dallas. I have no fear of traveling or visiting in Dallas. I have never had any problems really with any city I have been too and definitely not Dallas.

You live in New York and you want to know if its safe in Texas.... Of course Dallas is safe, and actually Texas is alot safer than New York overall,so anywhere will be safer than what your probably used to.

Dallas is very safe. I have been there many times and have never been mugged, robbed, or shot. You might want to stay away from Harry Hines Boulevard at night.
We did see a fight once by a motel on the west side.

Dallas is probably much safer than most.

The reports you get about crime in America sounds worse than it is. Our news has a "if it bleeds, it leads" policy. The bloodiest event, whether a massive are accindent or a violet event, lead the news.

Nice news is shoved to the back, last 5 minutes of the show.

dallas is a great place. i've been here most of my life. like dude said though, stay away from greyhound station downtown. its more of a homeless shelter for the ones that dont want help, just trouble. west end, uptown, are nice. the really only unsafe place is the highways and all the traffic
