If the GSD that your friend has, lives outside and she has failed to socialise him, he will have gone crackers. Would be intruders come armed to maim an outside dog, a dead dog cannot protect anyone. It sounds like your dog will live inside. You don't need a large dog, you just need a dog with a loud voice. A dog who shares your house, will bark if there are any strange noises outside. However you must be prepared to take it for several long walks a day and socialise it with kids, people and other dogs. Dogs are expensive to maintain and you cannot leave them alone for a long time. If you do this, it will get bored miserable and lonely. If you fail to toilet train it and leave it alone, it will pee on the carpets and chew your furniture. I adore dogs, if you don't you could find a dog a huge inconvenience. You might also find it a problem, if you need to relocate as there a few landlords who allow dogs. Have you consided having an alarm installed. In the long run, this will cost less than a dog. In the UK an alarm can be connected to the Police who will come mob handed if the alarm activates, or if you press a panic button.

Yes sweetheart and she should always have her man on speed dial in case there is a problem.
Also, if there is going to be no man at the house late at night the husband should request a policeman to watch over the neighborhood.
If anything was to happen such as a break-in and there was no man home a woman would have no way of defending herself.
We just aren't strong enough so having a guard-dog around is a great idea!
Women should be trained to never open the door to strangers when she is alone too.
I love how you do so much to keep us safe baby XOXO

Dude, you are so straddling the fence between being chivalrous and chauvinistic!

It can be so charming to have a man looking out for our best interests, as long as said man is open to the idea that some of us can kick butt and raise hell all by ourselves :-) So much so, that some people need protection from us.

Yeah, I need a guard dog to keep dumb asses away when home alone. But only so as I won't be tried for battery of said dumb asses.

But God bless you anyway.

Good idea! I have two guard dogs myself and I do feel safer with them. At least I know they'll tell me if someone's trying to break in! And I don't have to keep the yard clean after them...lol

Yeah? Mr. Sandstorm? And who is gonna feed this pooch and pick up the doggie poo poo all over the yard? If you get a dog it is YOUR responsibility not the little woman's. She is quite capable of throwing your butt to the ground , I hear. So, forget the pooch.
