I completely relate to what you're saying. I used to look up at the stars and ask these same questions about life, the universe, what happens after death, etc. It seems like everyone has an answer, but their answer is nothing but a best guess. Or they're too busy worrying about what a celebrity wore to the Oscars to ponder such issues at all. My theory is that you should enjoy life, treat others fairly, and have some kind of spiritual leader pray for your soul as you die, just in case.

A very sad mess. It doesn't work that way though.
You do have to die but, you can live again. You do have to watch loved ones die too. But, they too can live again.
What happens after depends on what decision you make now. Eternal life is offered by Jesus, just choose Him now. I know that you are meant to tells others this message.
To know how it all got started, read the Bible.
The Bible is God's written Word to us.
It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit.
“Above all you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” 2 Peter 1:20-21. (New International Version)
Breakdown of the Bible
36 human authors inspired entirely by God over 1600 years.

And you can't take it as read, that you'll have one hundred years and die in your sleep. Just two weeks ago, my best friend lost his first son, just thirteen years old. He had a nut allergy, and was fed food cooked with peanut oil. The sense of loss we all feel is just so oppressive, it doesn't fade.
Live each day, get the best out of it. And spread a smile around when you can. Peace, out.

Just "BE" Put all the goodness and happiness into everything you do, be pleasant with everyone and read the "Desiderata". No one out there can give you peace, happiness or purpose, you need to cultivate your own. Read some relevant material and consult your soul.

Goodness gracious - what about creativity and reinventing yourself? We are not stuck with anything. The whole thing apparently hinges upon having the right attitude, doesn't it? Gratitude, amazement, awe, wonder, uncertainty, surprise, &c., instead of the resignation of an 80 year old.

The answer cannot be told to you. You have to find it yourself. The problem is the seeker not what is being sought. When you realise it then you will not ask these questions.
