the time for forwarding suggestions to the government regarding border control and the illegal alien problem has passed into irrelevancy. it is clear that no amount of protest, outcry, or rational argument by the 'american people', is having much affect upon our leaders on either of these issues and what is becoming even clearer is that our government is doing everything in it's power to aid and comfort the illegals as your question rightly points out.
so the question is not "what can we do about border security and illegals?" rather it becomes, "what do we do about our government ignoring us on an issue of this magnitude?"
what do you do if you you see this happening? what can you do? vote you say?...i'm not so sure about that anymore...

Bush would like that. As Bush, Republicans, and corporate America work towards an open border with Mexico and unlimited cheap labor, Americans still debate what is wrong with immigration policy. Bush signed in 2005 the North American Union, opening the border for Mexicans in a boondoggle for his corporate friends. http://www.freedom.org/naugreen2/player.html
All Bush's posturing to the contrary, if you click on the link you will see he has no intention of closing, or even controlling, the border.

The secret is that it is always nice to know before you shoot them that they are drug smugglers.
Where is it written that those crossing the border are given the death sentence for an act that would not warrant it even if they were convicted!
