We will not save anything by retreating from Iraq. Our enemies would be encouraged an become more aggressive.
Any potential allies would see us as unreliable. They could become our enemies too, depending on future events.
The war will become global with time anyway; and it will not help us to give up Iraq to the extremists.

Whatever your - or any service member's - feelings are, the fact is that the military is subject to civilian control so they don't get to make those decisions. They implement the policies of the President and, since the military is merely the means for attaining the goal, they do not get to determine what those goals are or how or when they'll be reached. Letting the military determine when the mission is done wouldn't be a very good idea, anyway. How would they decide? Democratically? What if they couldn't reach an agreement? What would they base their decision on? I don't mean to insult any service members (family members and several close friends have served in the Army, Navy, and National Guard since Vietnam) but they don't have access to specialized knowledge that would allow them to make what is pretty much a strategic and political decision. Like it or not, that's how it is. I don't see how a prudent or imprudent decision with respect to the armed forces has anything to do with patriotism, though.

I am answering this as an Australian , as we also have troops serving with yours in Iraq.....
Personally I don't give a damn what message it sends to the world about the USA..
I DO care about the lives of ALL servicemen and women (American British Aussie and others)
..BUT.... while I am against the war .. and further involvement ... .. I really do not think it would be fair on the Iraqi people for us to just cut and run, WITHOUT setting up a peace-keeping Corps.
However bad Sadam was ..Whatever cruel means he used to keep his population under control .. it can not be assumed that less people are dying NOW than then .. Sadam was NOT the ally of AQ... and now without him controlling Iraq .. the terrorist groups are in there trying to take control .. IF we pull out without setting up a Peace Keeping Corp we will be sentencing thousands more of Iraqis to death as a civil war WILL break out...
we went in .. we shouldn't have ( that is debateable i know) .. but I believe we have a responsibility to not cut and run..

The fact is there would be no civil war in Iraq, had we not gone in in the first place, any problems theey are having now are our fault, and our responsibility. People need to understand this. I keep hearing "get out, get out" and were does that leave the Iraqi people? within 6 months the new government will be gone, radicals will be in charge again, (one's who definitely support terrorism) and the Iraqis will be worse off than before because they will be punished for the actions of our military, and George W. . You're right we should just cut and run, to hell with them. if they don't live in my neighborhood why should I care about them? I'm sure whoever ends up in charge will forgive us, in fact, they'll most likely send us a gift basket.

And how many millions of Iraqi people do you wish to see killed because they voted in elections?
Why do you support the terrorists over the government the Iraqi people elected?
Why do you want to betray the troops by denying us a victory we have earned with our blood, our sweat and our tears?
And if you force the troops to pull out of Iraq - how long will it be before they ever trust the American people again?

Just what job are we to finish? The reason for still being there is still a mystery not only to me but for millions of others.
We went in there to find and destroy the WMD's,which has proven to be false. Then the object was to instill and promote democracy, which again was bull. Now at last count it was to fight the terrorist, but there were no terrorist before our ill timed and illegal invasion, so exactly what is our unfinished mission, and how many more innocent lives are to be sacrificed?
What happened to the gung-ho idea of killing Osama Bin Laden?

GET OUT OF IRAQ!! It's an internal political problem they need to solve themselves. If we're going to do anything, we should assist in the political process of dividing the country into 3 so each group can have their own space.
