Read them to get a basic idea of what's out there, but take them with a huge grain of salt. Colleges oversend these things--supposedly, some elite schools will send them to students who have absolutely no chance of getting in, just to get their applications up--more applications, fewer acceptances = lower acceptance rate and a more elite feeling.

If there is a college that peaks your interest, go online to get more information. Visit the college's Web site, see what people on various message boards say (but take what they say with a grain of salt as well), ask people you know, add it to your "possible" list of schools you will apply to. Then, recycle them. Your guidance department likely doesn't need them; they probably get more than they can possibly use.

Good luck.

Basically, you keep the ones that you're still thinking about, and you get rid of the ones that you've decided against. As the other responder said, you might drop some of it off at your guidance office, but basically keep a file of the ones that you're considering, so that you can study them and make an educated decision.

Read them. Keep the ones for schools you're interested in around- in a file or binder or something so they're all together and you can find them easily. Throw the ones from schools you're not interested in into the recycling bin.
