I've wondered that since I was a kid. Why can't he talk if all the other animals from Disney can? And what about Pete? (Captain Pete from Steamboat Willie, the bad guy), what is he? Thanks!

Goofy's a dog also. He's just not a pet dog. He's further up the evolutionary chain. Haven't seen Steamboat Willie since I was a kid (the time of cavemen and stone tablets!). Don't remember much about that, except it was the first Disney cartoon.
