I had to take some lessons in school for typing blind, was awfully slow then, but now I use the finger settings for typing blind while still looking at the screen or keyboard often.
I type pretty quick that way.
Your typing would speed up with use anyway, but if you spend some hours in learning the type blind ways you would speed up more.
I do not think that using a different keyboard would help any, unless you have to search for each letter and have nothing to unlearn, and even then you would have to use the same keyboard from than, also when using a new computer. Not very likely.

I tyed pretty fast as well. In high school I took a vocational class for office assistant and we had to type like CRAZY. I typed probably about 65 WPM. I was the fastest typer in my class.
Plus I have been playing piano since I was 5 so that might have something to do with my fast typing.

I type really fast, depending on how I'm feeling. =]
I hear you can increase your typing speed by switching from a qwerty keyboard to the other type
