supposedly the story given then was that john's little boy julian drew a picture of a little girl with stars in the sky..he showed his picture to paul mccartney who asked him..what the drawing was about..he said it was lucy( a little friend of his) in the sky with diamonds...
whether this story was true..no one knows..it was the story given at the time...
most everyone felt that the song referenced lsd..which the beatles said they were experimenting with at that time.
