I live in the country and am a diehard & devout democrat. I'm also the chair for my precinct which is heavily republican although I live in one of the few democratic counties in all of Texas here in Travis County where Austin is located. I live outside of Austin but the heart of Austin is heavy democrat. Democrats hold all of the local and county elected positions in Travis County except for three. Travis County....I have finally reached my political mecca!

Demographics are changing. I live in a rural area on the edge of far southwest suburbs of Chicago. Our town was at one point staunchly Republican, although the county favored Democrat. Now many people are moving away from Chicago out to our area and the majority appear to be Democrat as about 95 % of Cook County/Chicago, would be.

However, I am not young. 54 today

I live in a small town and I'm a moderate Liberal...60% of everyone around here is a Conservative with little interest in news of depth. Very few people actually read the 2nd page of the paper other than the sports page or the want ads., I find that most I know as Conservatives are not into reading complex news items...just the headlines. A moderate Conservative is much like me, the differences are minor and hypothetical much of the time

A very insightful question.

I am older, moved from the city to the country. Most are older, the young seem to go for the excitement, I like it quiet. Most of my neighbors if you will, we live on a farm, are pretty patriotic group, most are vets, most go armed to the city, not a lot of crime here, the crooks know we are armed.

I am one of the latter, though I consider myself a "moderate republican." Although I am socially and fiscally conservative, I do not support big-business or ethnocentric-driven invasions of foreign countries. I simply have a capitalistic approach to culture - you need to earn your way in life; not fake your way to the top with social service programs, etc.
