Thanks guys for your help but I've run all the spybot and norton progams and when I try to access, say a link that comes up on yahoo that I want, when I click on it, it goes straight to netster adult and no searches returned. I've blocked this site only to be sent to another identical search engine...

Neither one of those sites are "hijacked" or can be "hijacked" if what you are trying to search gives you a bad result ("unsavoury site").

Both of the websites provide you unlimited search capabilities inorder to find the right information you need.

You will run into web pages or web sites you don't really want to see on occasion, but not because Google or Yahoo have been "hijacked."

Near the search button there should be a a"Preferences" link which allows you to restrict the type of websites or pictures that come up (although not all of them will be resitricted).

Also a virus will not cause this.

i used to have that problem until i reinstalled windows one day. It was to the point where I'd click on a site about a country and i'd end up on a site advertising holidays. Stuff like that.
I didn't know what to do but when I reinstalled, I at least found out it was probably just a virus and not my connection/the search engine.

Use Firefox with the unsavoury website add-in. Then, on Google search, it flags bad sites, good sites, etc. Also resist typing 'Big Hooters' in Google search.

If malwarebyte wont fix the problem: Check a hosts file and proxy settings. Also, disable all unknown ad-ons in your browser. This is called browser hijacking.

If your browser has been hijacked then download HijackThis and run a scan.

Look in the BHO (Browser Help Object) section in particular, for any suspicious entries and put a check mark against it and click on the Fix Selected Items button.

Most likely you have a virus or else it was a pop up page, try using a different web browser like FireFox instead of Internet explorer.

Perhaps you have a virus or the like. Get a virus scan such as Norton and look into it.

It may be to do with your search options. You can do safe search to ignore adult sites.
