I've seen one in the Pacific ocean, and one at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago. I even have a video of the one from the Shedd Aquarium. They're really cool. Did you know they can squeeze their huge bodies into an area about the size of a Coke bottle? They're also considered to be the most intelligent of all known invertebrates.

I'll send you two pictures and the video. The video is pretty short -- just a few seconds.

I was snorkling in Hawaii about 20 feet from shore and the bottom dropped off about 50 feet and there was a huge octypus down there and I couldn't get out of the water fast enough.

In a zoo.

Grilled octopus tastes great by the way. With a bit of lemon sprinkled on it.

Yup, and they are interesting critters. in fact in the mid 60's i was the ETfor the zo dept at the UW and we had a few of them. they are a natural critter in puget sound. sorry, no really big ones that eat ships, but with genetic manipulation maybe we can make some to eat seattle, lol....what a life! they are a bit shy and use a kind of ink jet spray to protect themselves. they have the ability to chage color of thier skin to match the background for hiding. this is called chromatafore shift. i had to make a electronic device to measure that for the researcher i worked for. his name was ernst florey, now passed away. but you can google him
