I have a business degree, and I'm working in my field, but I like to write. In fact, English was always my best subject. I think it would be fun to write a book of some kind.

If you think it would be fun, then by all means, do it. Start writing a book! If you want to start smaller, there are most likely small community newspapers that publish where you live - you can start writing small articles about local business or human interest stories and submitting them to the editors.

For a real education in freelance writing, the best guide is the Writer's Market - you can most likely find a copy in your local library, or get a copy from bookstore or Amazon. It has a lot of information it would be good for you to know.

Check with your library to see if there are any creative writer's organizations/meetings that you can attend. Check the internet for support groups relating to writers. Network with authors and interview how they got started, pros and cons, etc. You may not end up doing lunch with Stephen King but people love to talk about themselves. Give them that chance.
