Well, it is a specific citation from the book of Job, Chapter 6, verse 16

16 Which are blackish by reason of the ice, and wherein the snow is hid:

Of course, taken out of context, it means whatever you want it to mean

Job 6:16
"Which are dark because of the ice, and into which the snow vanishes"
by itself it doesn't mean much, you have to read the verses before and after it. Job is talking about how deceitful his brothers have been.
I take it to mean snow = purity. Deceitful people have no pureness, like a stream running under black ice.
I think Job is very depressed and trying to understand why people are so rotten.

From Job 6 (NIV):
14 "A despairing man should have the devotion of his friends,
even though he forsakes the fear of the Almighty.

15 But my brothers are as undependable as intermittent streams,
as the streams that overflow

16 when darkened by thawing ice
and swollen with melting snow,

17 but that cease to flow in the dry season,
and in the heat vanish from their channels."

Taken in context, it means, "A man should be able to depend on his friends. However, my friends are fickle, like the river that is thick with water during the spring thaw (the 6:16 part), but dry up in the summer's heat, leaving me no water to drink." He may be saying that his friends are fine in good times, but nowhere to be found in bad times like a drought.

From The Message translation:

14-17 "When desperate people give up on God Almighty,
their friends, at least, should stick with them.
But my brothers are fickle as a gulch in the desert—
one day they're gushing with water
From melting ice and snow
cascading out of the mountains,
But by midsummer they're dry,
gullies baked dry in the sun."

if you read the verse before it you'll see he is talking about his brothers (generalization maybe) being undependable and 6:16 is describing how undependable they are like thawing ice and melting snow. the ice is thawing so it wont stay ice for long the snow as well not very dependable
