I don't always trust my own motivation. Or my feelings. I'm not sure we always think we are honest and the next person isn't. I can be more sure of my self than others because I am in me own head innit.

because you're lying to yourself. When you see your own lies the lies of others become hilarious like you fell into wonderland. Take the racists who don't think they're racist for example. Thier feeble attempts at rationalization are quite funny so long as they don't hold any power over you.
It's starts to look like a scene from Alice in wonderland, people running around screaming "off with thier heads." It's always tea time here.

Because we give ourselves bigger breaks and more excuses than we give the next person. Also, we often have an unspoken, often unrealized code of ethics: "What feels good to me is right, even if it hurts you; what feels bad to me is wrong, even if it helps you."
A great example of this is Holden Caulfield in The Catcher in the Rye. Holden keeps complaining in his mind about phonies, and he finds everything and everyone phony, yet he himself lies like a carpet.
