I really want to make this my career but I dont really know how to go about doing it. Ive talked to college counslers but they say that none of the colleges in my area offer classes for this field. Im 28 married with 2 kids and work full time ive been a retail manager for 9 years. Computer animation has been something ive been interested in for years but not sure how to get started without quitting my job because of my family.

Sorry to say without taking recognized accredited courses, your dream of becoming a professional computer animator is severely impeded. You would also need access to very high end computers with expensive, specialized software, which you could only access through a school with such a program.
However, you could look into programs like Shockwave or Java, or other computer software that you can learn on your own with relative ease and do at home on your own system, and start out with those to see how well you do and how much you really enjoy the process before you have to make any life-changing decisions.
