Depends how much you have to spend on your bills. In Arizona what a lot of people do is set their air conditioning to around 80 degrees and turn on ceiling fans or something. Or, you could use the a/c when its hot during the day and keep the windows open and use fans at night. Both ways are energy efficient ways to get the results you want. I know as a student with no extra money to spend, that's what we do. Good luck!

Oh dear you are OBVIOUSLY NOt Australian.
If it's the expensive air- conditioning that freezes your house in seconds - you open the door and try to save money until you can't stand the temeperature usually at 101F (40C)
If it's evaporitive (like mine) - you opened the doors/windows early in the morning; then you left them open about an inch because other-wise you can break the air-conditioner. The fairly early you put the air-con on low and by mid-day your house is cool. The leaving the windows open bit is complex - look it up, it's just some-thing all Aussies know.

It rarely gets that hot here - and we don't have air-con at home...so when it gets really hot, we just have to open the windows. BTW, for any non-Americans who may not know, I believe 90 degrees Fahrenheit is 32 degrees Celsius.

AC of course. But I spent two years in an African village and all I had was a fan and it regularly got to 90+ degrees inside the house.

I turn on the AC!!!

To heck with the people that say I'm just waisting electricity! They can complain from their sweaty, smelly, roasting hot homes, while I sit in frosty cool comfort here in my place! Actually I do feel bad about that Global Warming thing, but as long as the entire world is getting a little warmer.... I'm glad to have my central AC!
