Poor Scotland - get's such a bad rap when it comes to the weather. It's not really all that different to the rest of UK - a couple of degrees colder and generally more rain apart from the east coast which is amongst the driest places in the UK.
If you're going there soon then May is often the best month to visit. It's not unusual for a fine weather system to settle over Scotland bringing several continuous days of warm, dry, sunny conditions. Doesn't happen every year but it's nice when it does. May also has the advantage of being before the midge season (June to September). Although tiny, these biting insects can drive a person to despair, they're harmless but the bite causes an intense itching and you often get a great many bites at once.
Anyway, back to the weather. This site gives you typical weather for Edinburgh - http://www.weatherbase.com/weather/weather.php3?s=006130&refer= if you want the weather for other towns and cities go here http://www.weatherbase.com/search/search.php3?refer= and enter the placename.

Believe it or not Scotland is a BIG country....so in the South it can be a lot milder than in the far North, much the same as in England. The west coast has the influence of the Gulf Stream so in the South West are some of the best botanical gardens in the UK with palm trees etc., The east coast can be colder with the influence of colder winds from the continent. Generally speaking the North is wetter than the south, although the east can be very dry as it is in the rain shadow of the highlands and the prevailing wind is generally from the west....As with the rest of the UK the weather is variable, but it is a myth to think it is always cold and snowing...I've just been as far north as it was possible to go on the UK mainland and it was warmer and drier than Devon...best way to find out is go, but don't just pack raingear, take some sun tan cream.

The weather is very inconsistent. Today it was a nice, sunny day. The day time temperature in degress celcius was 19. The night time temperature was 8. The forecast for the next week looks similar. Last week it was not cold, but we had a few days of rain.
View my blog I have the weather as one of my feeds.
