Hello
To determine if it is a fake please consider the following
Have you ever heard of the company in question
Where you expecting an email contact
have you agreed to part with personal details with the company
Have you ever paid to take part in the company lottery
Did the email look legit and professional
Is the email asking for personal data
If you have any doubts, it looks like you have been sent a scam email. I do urge you to look at the email address of the email.
Most likely there is no lottery and the email was sent to make you part with personal information, known as a scam.
If you believe this to be the case, please report the email as scam by clcik the junk mail option.
You may also forward the email to abuse@yahoo.com
Sadly Yahoo and Yahoo Staff will take no further action as it is the responsibility of the Yahoo account holder to maintain security and not take part in scams.
All the best

Don't fall for it.
(By the way -- I presume where you refer to web site' in your query you mean 'email address'? -- these are not the same thging you know. But normally this type of scam is a spam email based con telling you your 'email address' has won some 'spurious and unlikely' big money prize)
This cannot be a Bona Fide web lottery.
There are many scams of this kind doing the rounds and if you were to contact them you would soon be giving over your bank details and likely be asked to 'make a payment' to process release of the 'check'...and naturally...after paying them...you will never hear another thing...
Until you win 'another lottery'!

It's a total scam ... and that's without even looking at the site.
Why that idiot thinks you're an American citizen when you've asked a question on Yahoo! Answers UK & Ireland is beyond me ... or is it just that too many people are too lazy to even click on the link at the bottom of the page?

I am sorry, don't bother. I have the same letter regarding my site. And in the future: think about where they get all that money from if you, the winner, didn't pay a penny?
