If the "n" word is in the song lyrics, and is being played for general public listening, I would see nothing wrong with singing the lyrics as written. Several "not-to-be-used" words have made their appearance in popular music, and most people don't mind. The group Dire Straits had a huge hit which contained the lines, "The little ****** got his own jet airplane. The little ****** is a millionaire". I doubt many people were offended by it.

That is the best question I have ever seen on YA or anywhere.

I wonder about that all the time, especially when I am singing along to "Gone" by Kanye West. Sometimes I'm not sure who's listening, and I G-rate it, but sometimes I'm feeling extra street on I just say the n word right along with them.

I wish I could say it to all my friends, like in Pulp Fiction. It sounds so cool, for some reason.

I would like to give everyone some information on the word ******"and the originality of where the word came from.I hate the word in the context people use it,that is why I would like to educate you about it.
The word is actually slang and came from the original word
"niggard" which means covetous,parsimonious,miserly,
stingy, scanty or a low and dastardly person.
Since there are people all races that are like this I believe it is unfair to pin the term to one race as people have in the past.
I hope this answers your question as well as gives others something to think about.

In life, you're gonna offend people. If you're listening to a song with people and they get offended because you sing it then they aren't your friends.
If you act all weird about saying it, they'll act all weird about hearing you say it.
You teach people how to treat and react to you. Not the other way around. They'll react to your comfort level.
The big N word shouldn't be acceptable for anyone to say. I had a 60 yr old black man call me a cracker with all that anger in his eyes like I called him the N word. I didn't, but his calling me cracker cut just as bad as if I had used the N word on him. Any word you use with hate is WRONG.
There are exceptions to every rule. If they can't make that exception for you, take your @ss whoopin' and get a new click baby. Never break stride.

The N word is a slang for the word *****. It was used to show disrespect to the black slave from the lazy and poorly educated southern man. It has always been used in many disrespectful situation and now due to political correctness it is now a word that is forbidden to use in public. Except for a black man. It seems it is OK for a Black man to disrespect is own color of race. We now don't have freedom of speech as there is a movement now that Blacks can talk one way and Whites have to talk another. Instead of a common ground the Black Leadership is working hard and succeeding to drive a stake between the Blacks and Whites, by demanding one standard (the high one ) for Whites and one standard for Blacks (low one). Majority of Blacks and Whites are falling for this to lead us down the road to destruction. I say free speech for all or not speech for any. Fair is Fair.

Think about this for one moment ... If one is unable to say a certain word, any word at all, without being persecuted...then you are no longer living in the "free" America we all thought we were.

Saying the n-word, which I will at the end of this answer to prove my point, doesnt make me a racist!! Only racist thoughts put into actions of discrimination makes someone a racist.

If this truly is America, the land of free speech, then dont crucify me, simply for saying ******. I am actaully FROM AFRICA and this doesnt offend me.

Below is the dictionary description of the offensive use. Although, John Lennon wrote a song called, Women is the ****** of the world". Meaning, women are treated as slaves and badly. I had a friend who tried to tease me in a racist manner one time and called me a "Red ******". He was very stupid much like Don Imus. I am not African American, but personally as a person of color, the use of it in hate speech and hate music is shameful and embarrassing..... Has much to do with America's pre-Hitler focus on race eugenics, While Spanish folks (or American mixed Latins)who have sort of a different take on color might use the term for a black bean. Tasty if you like to eat beans..... Or even for someone who is Spanish for dark color or Mestizo for Native and Spanish or Metis for French and Native. In Latin cultures, except for the radicle right again, mixing is a sort of flavor as oppossed to how America has focused on racial generalizations...........
NOUN:
Offensive Slang

Used as a disparaging term for a Black person: "You can only be destroyed by believing that you really are what the white world calls a ******" (James Baldwin).
Used as a disparaging term for a member of any dark-skinned people.
Used as a disparaging term for a member of any socially, economically, or politically deprived group of people: "Gun owners are the new ******* . . . of society" (John Aquilino).

Try a edited version, but just don't make a habit of singing those lyrics in front of someone else. I was talking to my boyfriend about saying the n-word just today because he is a rapper. We were talking about this same exact scenario.

No.

If you are white you can expect to be hung drawn and quartered for using the n-word.

However, it is okay if non whites wish to ridicule or attack you based on your pigmentation.

This seems to be perfectly socially acceptable for some reason.

I think its okay to say it when going along with a rap song. They use it freely on any occasion in their lyrics so obviously they want ppl to sing along with them. I do it, and a lot of my white friends do it too. (especially when my friend jen used to listen to 50 cent-lol).
