To stop talking, and start listening.
We as a race tend to turn a deaf ear to the problems that plague our neighbor(s). We turn a blind eye to the homeless. We give an open hand, only when we want something in return. We shun the sick.
We are a selfish race (human kind).
If we could ever wholly grasp the concept that what we send out gets returned to us three-fold, maybe (just maybe) we would stop creating the messes we so despise.
I'm not saying I have the answer, fore I will be the first to admit that I fall short of the ideal. But trying is what matters most. Maybe that's the solution: simply trying.

You can see by the dog's breakfast/conflicting mess of answers you're getting here, that there is no "one thing". Some of the answers are pretty good, but none of them would make the world harmonious, by itself.
If there was one thing that would create harmony, then all the problems would already be fixed.
Repairing the world isn't a simple problem, with one solution. To make the world better and harmonious, we'll have to fix a whole galaxy of problems. Each one has to be addressed, evaluated, and fixed. Fix one, move on to the next. Eventually, after doing that for a very long time, the world will be a better place. In other words, roll up your sleeves and get ready for a whole lot of REALLY HARD WORK.
It still won't be perfect, and people will still be people, which means they will fight, be occasionally disharmonious, petty, stupid, etc.
I guess that means that the "one thing" we could do to create total harmony in the world would be to kill all humans. See? It's the only solution that could possibly work, but it still sucks, so the answer is that there is no single answer.

Don`t teach History I find most ills in this world are people still fighting over something that happened a long time ago. Lets just draw a line under the past and start with a clean sheet all over the world.

Remove religion. It has been the cause of civil unrest since we all appeared on this planet. Now our country is full of the worlds unwanted we are suffering it over here.
There should be only three religions in this country. Church of England, Catholic and Jewish. I think we have learnt to live together in harmony over the years.
However, letting other religions into the country which are used to encourage violence should be stopped otherwise we will end up like Iraq and similar countries.
England is the bastion of the civilised West and due to the weak pathetic immigration policies is now being poisoned from within.

Something Massive like an Ice age or Maybe a threat of invasion from another planet.
Anything that will make us realise that we are just dust drifting through time and there are far greater things out there that we CANNOT CONTROL.We may then realise that we are all equal and we are all as important as the next person. Then we may learn to share!!!!.........If we survive!!!!

The forthcoming extinction of the human race brought on by their own corruption of their environment will bring harmony to the world the left behind.

do away with all boundaries so that every one lives in the same country called earth and have one governing body to rule over it. if we all started by going out side and taking down the fence that devides us from our neighbours then we would all get on a lot better. we would have to talk to each other and would soon come to realize that we are all very much alike when it comes down to it. common people are scared by what they imagine to be the truth and by what governments want us to beleive about other races. its because it suits the wealthier and more powerfull members of society to keep us segregated lest we find out the truth !

It would be nice if things could be arranged so that everyone had a decent place to live and enough to eat. We have the resources but it would require tremendous changes in attitudes, government and economics.

Harmony can never be acieved as it is a human illusion. But one thing towards that illusionary direction is the abolishment of money. For starters.
