Nope. I'd put a contract out on them.

It would make it a lot easier if they showed genuine remorse, of course, but regardless, forgiving would be an important part of your own healing process.
This is what people so often fail to see----------forgiving does not mean accepting or condoning or even forgetting, but it does mean deciding to free oneself of the corrosive poison
of hatred and resentment.
Forgiving actually probably does as much if not more to ease the pain of the forgiver than the forgiven! Think about it this way-------if you ran over someone's pet by accident, would having this person show forgiving kindness towards you make you feel any better about what you had inadvertently done?

Actually, I wouldn't be able to forgive myself for letting the pet run loose. The car driver would have had nothing to do with it.

I love my pets, but if one of them got hit and killed (we live on a busy street) then it's my fault for them somehow getting out of the fenced in backyard. And they have to act very very very sorry. I'd be devastated and cry a lot, but if they were good enough to come to the door and apologize, then that's real.

It would be hard, but I would forgive them since it was an accident. I would probably put some blame myself for making sure my cats couldn't get out.

well, accidentally yeah - they didn't mean to. it just be hard to get over the death, but you can't blame someone, unless they're really just constantly careless, and then in the hopes that it will make them pay more attention to the things happening around them.

If they felt awful and were really upset and genuinely sorry then yes, it was an accident after all.
