"My Chemical Romance

Some fans of My Chemical Romance have misconstrued my review of last night's show at Bank Atlantic Center. Nowhere in my writeup did I blame the band or its fans on last week's tragedy in Virginia. I did point out that the band addresses issues of depression and alienation that are similar to those expressed by Seung-Hui Cho, and by lots of kids, for whom the band acts as a kind of spokesman. MCR singer Gerard Way addressed this himself in a speech during the concert, which I quoted. I also differentiated the band from the killer by saying the musicians vent and express their frustration in music, rather than with guns, and encourage their fans to do the same.

However, I do think the band crosses a line by peddling in bloody images and performing in front of a large backdrop of handguns with the word REVENGE, as I also wrote. If they had dropped the backdrop, I would have felt much better about a concert that, as I wrote today, was "genuinely cathartic."

I do think that the copyeditor who wrote the headline accusing the band of a "deathfest" inflamed readers. Nowhere in my review did I say the show was a deathfest. In fact, I quoted lyrics where the band embraces life."

OMG!! NO! It was not MCR's fault for the VT shooting. Its a song, and yes some of their songs are suppose to be insperational, but not to make someone kill about 32 people! I doubt thats why that guy did what he did to the innocent students. And how do those people know that the massacre listened to MCR, he could have listened to something else other than MCR , that made him do what he did. Yeah, i have to say that their lyrics are so so powerful and it can make you do things you never have done before, but they are not so powerful enough to have someone kill innocent students and teachers.Teenagers is about doing all that stuff to protect themselves. They really are against all that stuff. Thats my opinion.

I think it's utterly stupid and some people just can't accept the fact that the person who committed this atrocity had serious problems. Everyone just needs someone to blame. This band is not responsible for what this psychopath did. My Chemical Romance promotes violence awareness and at their concerts they tell their fans that if they are having problems or are suicidal they should get help and speak to someone. My Chemical Romance has been an outlet for so many kids and has helped so many people.

You cannot blame a band for the actions of what that psycopath did.

First permit me say that their are 15,000 pupils at that distinctive college, 4,000 interior the dorm, and 11,000 who stay off campus. Virginia Tech the day in the past as we communicate had a Press convention on Fox information, and between the government (there have been 3), and that i don't understand his call mentioned that they do have a secure practices equipment, by digital mail, and different technical means. in spite of the undeniable fact that the time that the incidents occurred, became interior the A.M. whilst the scholars have been commuting. whilst they did arrive they felt that it became ultimate to fasten down whilst they did arrive. somewhat on the time of the information convention they have been nonetheless doing the study of the witnesses, and that they did no longer have all of the solutions yet. That mentioned, i believe they might desire to have steel detectors as they do on the airports, and that i.D. playing cards (ones that can not be counterfeited), as they are making plans to do with Passports interior the USA. Secondly whilst an incident does happen they might desire to have a noisy siren like they do in Israel, and different countries for the time of conflict time alerting human beings to pass into their shelters. That wll alert people who're commuting. For those that dorm they might desire to have a PA equipment put in. those are the only measures that i'm able to think of of, different than for strickter gun administration rules. certainty to tell, it incredibly is unlucky yet despite measures are put in it kind of feels that when a deranged person, or a terrotist is desperate to harm human beings regrettably they constantly discover a thank you to artwork around any secure practices equipment that's put in. it incredibly is nearly a no win problem, yet we would desire to do what we would desire to do no remember what. G-d could help those households, to have the means to triumph over the tragedy of dropping a chlld.

That's like saying I hijacked a busload of penguins while tripping on acid because I listened to celine dion. For real people, no band can MAKE you do something you don't want to do!! He was ill, he needed more than the staff could give him, a licensed professional who knew wtf they were doing. Even then, he ulitmately had to make his own choices. I knew they were gonna say some stupid sh!t like that!! They always blame it on violent video games and that devil music. I been playing violent video games and listening to heavy metal all my life and have never even gotten into a fight. I don't stalk people, and I have never made a "manifesto." I don't molest farm animals and I have never done drugs (except marijuana.) I don't drink often. I'm a loving mother and wife, I don't dress emo or goth. I pay my bills, and live a normal life. The dude was messed up.

That's a bunch of B.S. I love MCR and I'm about as clean-cut as you can get.

But what I got from the article is, he's not so much blaming them for VA Tech, I think he just thinks their act is "in bad taste" after the VA Tech tragedy.

Even though MCR has some twisted songs, I don't believe that anyone can be solely convinced to do something like that by just music, movies, TV, etc. They may listen to/watch it, but ultimately that's not what caused them to do it. They have a mental problem.

I think it's ridiculous. Just because you listen to a certain type of music doesn't mean you kill people. If this were the case, then all of the MCR fans would be killers. In my opinion, he was just crazy.

A lot of it is just politics & the politicians jumping on the bandwagon with music & television, movies, porn, etc. being the cause of all the bad things going on. No one wants to take responsibility anymore. Not enough people are willing to own up to the fact that they don't have time to instill good old fashioned morality & plain good manners into their children. "We" are so wrapped up in ourselves, our careers, our "drama" that we often leave out the welfare of our childrens' psyche. Every generation has their "it's the music" naysayers. In my day (& I'm not that old), it was Black Sabbath & Judas Priest, with so-called "experts" saying that if their albums were played backwards, there were Satanic chants that would drive us towards violence & suicide. Before that, it was The Beatles, and before that, Elvis Presley & his hips! Wonder who it'll be for my grandchildren?!!
