I am a soldier in the US Army and am currently on my second "tour" in the combat zone. I was excited that they passed the bill. President Bush will veto it, which i think is unfortunate. The American Government doesn't care about Iraq as a country. Look through Yahoo News and read all of the articles about the bill, almost all of them have a blurb about Washington pressuring the Iraq government to agree to give us some of the oil. That is what this war was about from the beginning. All this talk about the war on terror, this war was not started in "the War on Terror". It was started to find some Weapons of Mass Destruction, which were never found. As of now we are trying to force a democratic government onto a people who have no comprehension of what "Freedom" is. In fact they have been oppressed for so long, and told what they can, and cannot do, our idea of "freedom" scares the hell out of them. Whether we leave now or in ten years, it will be the same. Iraq will fall into civil war between the Sunnis and the Shiites. To them it is a religious war, The United States is trying to turn a religious conflict into a political conflict. Right now there is no way democracy will be accepted in Iraq, and quite honestly, I don't think it ever will. I am a soldier serving my country and I am proud to. But I don't feel like i am serving any of you. I feel I am being taken advantage of, and that i am being used for some sinister economic agenda. If this is what fighting for the freedom of the United States, and our way of life is about... Well... I am really sorry to disappoint you... I don't want to anymore!

1. Saddam was always a threat! he started the Iraq/Iran War in the 80's. And Gulf War 1.
2.Give "the surge" time to work. Who ever said it would be easy?
3. Pres. Bush never lied. The U.N and other countries believed Saddam ahd WMD's there. Saddam used them during the Iran/Iraq War AND his own people.(the Kurds!)The U.N. was slow to check for them! Saddam moved them to Syria.
4. A dumb butt statement.
5. Another dumb butt statement.
6. The only "war" goin on in Iraq is in and AROUND Baghdad!
7. I agree with this statement. Only time will tell for them to "get it together".
8. This statement is just as out of your butt as #'s 4 & 5. This aint the 60's!!

They should get out ASAP this is Vietnam all over again they are fighting for people who don't even want their help, maybe they should be helping New Orleans recover from hurricane katrina, they desperately need the help

I've met American soldiers the ones I've met are good down to earth people who genuinely want to help people

I'm one of the many that said from the beginning we had no business being there. Yes, we should leave as quickly as possible. Before one more American soldier loses his or her life for a hopeless cause. Don't believe it's not hopeless? Does anyone actually believe that 6 months after we declare "job well done" that that country won't be in chaos? If you do you are fooling yourself.

Nobody knows what will happen if we leave or stay. It's like asking do you want a mystery box? Or open that mystery door? And even if Iraq become stable democratic nation there is no guarantee they will be our best friend considering they have Shiite dominant gov. What if Iraq become friendly toward, Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran? They're all Shiites. Iraq is now ruled by Shiites.

So, I think its unfair to put troops in there when no one knows what the hec will happen anyways.

The Surge isn't working?

How do you know? It hasn't started yet. I'm still sitting here waiting on my orders. Supposed to be boots on the ground in October. The same with 6,000 of my comrades.

What surge are you referring to? The drink from the late 90s? That stuff sucked.

Leave and let iraqis declaring that day as their independence day. For those that says the US mission in iraq is to give them "freedom", just remember, no foreign policy of any countries is based on altruism.

i say leave i am from iraq and we are seeing alot of people dying, Americans, British and iraqi's so if they leave we will have more people still alive. I also think that iraq should build its own country not have other people telling us what to do. I also think that American's are not there to help they are stealing our oil, plus why are they hear fighting for us and took sadam away if they brought him for us?

Leave and never should've been there to begin with for all the reasons you mentioned and more. This is going to be worst than Vietnam in the long run if it's not already as we speak.
