My friend insists that Mallory and Mallary can be a boys name too. She also states that one spelling is for boys and one spelling is for the ladies. I pointed and laughed at her, but I thought I should get some opinions anyway, babynames.com says no way lol.

No No NO. He would so get teased. That name should only be given to a girl, and even then it's just an ok name.

Mallory was a boys' name first, actually. Just like Hillary. Now, however, it is thought of to be a girls' name.

I like Mallory for a boy's name, really. Not Hillary, though.

In my Baby Names book by Lori Cooper, Mallory is a boys' AND a girls' name, but not spelled like Mallary at all.

Any name can be used for a boy or girl. But do expect to get some weird looks or nasty comments. I don't know the history of Mallory for a boy, but www.babynamer.com has it listed under their boy section - without much commenting.

Personally, I am not a fan of it on a boy. I like it for girl, though. But look at Ashley, Laurie, etc. They were primarily boy names at one point. So, it's possible.

Mallory is typically considered feminine in our society today. If your friend is insistent on using it, maybe it will work in the middle name spot. Jack Mallory sounds fine.

I dunno. I actually have a cousin (a woman) with this call and he or she became into named after the female on relatives ties, that tutor with Michael J. Fox from the '80s. I even have in no way heard of a boy having this call yet i assume it would paintings as a unisex call. it somewhat is no longer an somewhat straightforward call and so it may desire to paintings i assume. it somewhat is all bearing directly to the discern's determination. once you think of approximately it, all unisex names began out getting used for adult males for women until eventually some discern desperate to step exterior the container and alter the regulations. as quickly as one individual starts off, people will persist with.

It might have been a male name long ago; as were Ashley, Beverly and Shirley. The level of teasing would be too cruel.

I guess you could use it as a boy name because it's not a obvious girl name to most people like Ashley, Britney, Hilary, etc.

I say no. Never heard of it as a boys name. But don't laugh and point, that's just obnoxious. Be gracious in victory.
