I probably would not name my child Kal-el as a first name, but maybe a middle name, possibly. I think people just have a thing against it because it has a dash in it, it's Superman's name, or Nicholas Cage used it.
When said fast, I think it just sounds like the name Khalil.

What do people think?

Kal el doesnt sound anything like Khalil and everyone knows its superman - thats why people have a thing against it!
Nicholas Cage is not normal and not a good example of anything!

Yes, Nicholas Cage named his son Kal-el and it is Superman's orginial name. However, I'm not too crazy about it with or without a dash. How about Jorel who I believe was Superman's father?

I totally agree with you! It sounds like a totally legit name, but I am bothered my the dash and The Superman thing. Actually, I wouldn't even know it was Superman related, if the rest of the world never said anything, lol.

Yeah, but the spelling irks me. Maybe Kalell?

What you name your child is entirely your decision.

The name Kal-el is no worse than a lot of names that people call their children all over the world.

There was a lady in my town who named her baby after her car! (Caprice)

if you like the name, use it. just help your child to be an individual and to let people know that his name is unique and so is he.

"El" might want to be a popularity for God in some situations. "Kal" can recommend "ordinary" contained in the experience of not being confusing. mutually, they can make a word, "ordinary to"; the same letters may also say "kollel" which skill "inclusive." yet once you try to interpret it as Hebrew, that is fairly quite slightly a nonsense word; i'd not examine something into it, myself. also, Superman's father develop into "Jor El" - and there is not any "j" sound in Hebrew in any respect :-) So i imagine it develop into merely something the writers cherished the sound of. As for Zod - he wears contacts even as he's in the international (it really is a least as a probability as the different reason). in short: that is all fiction; merely settle for it for what it really is, and income from the instruct.

The hyphen makes it confusing. I thought it would be pronounced 'kahl-el' rather than 'ka-leel' and I'm pretty good at pronunciation. I would go with Khalil or Kaleel or even Kalil to make it easier to pronounce. Otherwise, I like it.

You shouldn't name your baby anything strange like that. I have a weird name and I have had to go through life constantly reminding people how to pronounce it and spell it. It has turned into a pain in the ***. Do you know how much money it is to legally change you name??

i say go for it! it's unique, it's nice, and you know what, it's your child! no one elses, just remember that every child no matter what their name is needs to be taught that individuality and dignity are virtues in life and must always be remembered, up-held, practiced, and taught to their children. good luck, i think such a unique name will make your child feel special and proud!
