The only way dollar coins will stay in circulation is if the paper bills are withdrawn. Other than that they will remain a novelty and be horded just as they have in the past. It worked here in Canada because there are no more paper bills. Coins are more cost effective just from and economic standpoint.

Nope! Usually they print batch's for coin collectors first.
The last full year of the last gold coin was never put into circulation, just sold for 20 times more than they are worth to collectors!
I hate dollar coins. Any other ones as well! You get them as change, but never spent, and then are charged 8% for someone to count the coins they gave you!
There are some vending machines that used to take Anthony dollars. Many machines gave you change in those gold dollars. A dollar is worth so little today, you'd tear the lining out of your pants just to buy a beer! Cashiers hate them as they have no place in their cash drawers!
Too heavy, too bulky! I could see ten or twenty dollar coins though!

The Presidential dollar series is intended to circulate, but as long as paper dollars are available coins like this will be taken up by collectors for the most part.

All of the change machines at my occupation dispense the dollar coins instead of quarters..
All of the vending machines accept dollar coins as well..
I have no idea why..
Perhaps, that vending company seem to like using them because it means they can count currency faster (even denomination).
But, most retailers seem to be annoyed with them.. I have a pile of them here on my desk.. they go in my pocket when I go to work.. they go back on my desk when I get home :)

Nope, not a one.
Having worked in retail I can tell you it is a real problem when you have a register with trays for 4 types of coins and a fifth type of coin comes out.

Nope and they'll likely go the way of the Susan B. Anthony and the Sacagawea dollars. No one wants that much change in their pockets.
