make sure you DON'T do them because our thinking tends to be clouded in many different ways? (that clouded judgement resulting in leading less then as well as one possibly can) I'd start the list by sayying you'd need to constently check to make sure your descicions weren't influenced by greed, self delusion, bias, close mindedness, what's right being radically different then you've previously thought it was, previous errors in judgement or not thinking things through as much as you possibly can.

Ok, I think you are asking a question and answering it too. But, a leader has knowledge with which to lead and they give positive reinforcement to your staff so they keep churning out the good stuff. Never have a personal relationship with a subordinate.

Focus on what is good for those that are to follow you instead of what's good for you. Then things will fall into place.
