an oil would do nicely. We can tell this is non-polar because it is immiscible in water and water is a polar covalent liquid. As like dissolves in like polar would dissolve in polar and so this shows oil is non polar.

Sugars have a slight degree of polarity because they are carbohydrates containing carbon oxygen and hydrogen and so the distribution of atoms in the compound is not always the same. We can prove this as it dissolves in water.

Hope I've helped you =]

Look in your sugar bowl (sucrose) or open an artifical sugar pack (saccharin, aspartane).

I'm pretty sure most oil's, if not all, are non-polar.

Vegetable oil would work.
