I have a job interview tomorrow. And I'm EXTREMELY nervous, because I really want this job. This is my first job interview, and I'm sixteen. What type of questions do they ask? What are some good things to say? And what are some things NOT to say? Any help would be greatly appreciated...

I mentioned these questions in my blog recently for being accurate representation of the common questions asked in a job interview.

1. What are your strengths and weaknesses?
2. Why did you leave your last position?
3. Can you describe a previous work situation in which you ... ?
4. What is your ideal work environment?
5. How do you handle mistakes?
6. What is your most notable accomplishment?

Refer to Tom Musbach's article for the answers.

Congratulations on getting the interview! First, before you get there, take some deep breaths. You need to be as calm as you can. It's okay to be enthusiastic however. You didn't say what type of job, but here are some usual questions:

1. When the interview starts, shake the person's hand and say "thank you for taking time to see me". When you are done, shake their hand again, and say "it was nice to meet you. when should I call you to follow up about this position?"

2." Tell us about yourself:" Try to answer by mentioning hobbies and or skills (I write for the student newspaper...I babysit...I'm a Girl Scout..) Don't go into too many details. Let the interviewer ask more questions. It'll keep their interest.

3. "Why do you want to work for us?" If it's a retail place, say you want to use your 'people' skills (or you like helping people find things they need). If a friend recommended you work there, it's okay to say someone referred you

Some things NOT to say:
1. Don't say you want the employee discount(if it's a store).
2. Don't say, "whatever". If you're not certain, say "I'm not certain, can I get back to you on that?"

Please do NOT go into the interview chewing gum. Wear a nice dress, or suit or even skirt and blouse. (Neither one tight or too short.) Bring your own pen, and have resume and references. Or at least names and phone numbers to put on the application.

It's alright to mention that it's your first job interview ever. The interviewer will take it into consideration.
Good Luck!!

They may ask why you want the job. Say something about being interested in the kind of work that's involved. If it's a service job, say you like people. Be prepared to ask a couple of questions about the job that indicate interest. For example, what will be my responsibilities? How do you do {something related to the business}. Ask about hours, and if you need to work around school or something, be upfront about that. Ask about appropriate dress for work. End the interview by smiling, shaking the interviewer's hand, and ask how soon they expect to notify the successful applicant. Reiterate your interest in the job.

What do you want to do with your life?
What work do you like to do - admin, sales, customer service?
Do you like to work alone? With others?
Are you a team player, i.e., capable of 'carrying' a weaker employee who is really trying hard?
What are your goals in life?
Do you want to further your education? In what field? Why?
Why do you want this job?
What are your financial goals?
Can you, and would you, work nights on occasion? Saturday? Sunday?
Would you be willing to take another job in the company until a position opens up that you really want?

These are a few. You MUST be honest even if it means that you are not sure why someone asks a question. In other words, don't try to guess why the question is asked - don't try to impress someone with a super answer that doesn't really fit you and your goals. Nervous? Of course you are - that is absolutely human and expected. Just be yourself- you sound interested and pro-active - show that and you'll be fine. The best of luck to you!!

First, be neat and clean. Easy on the jewelry and makeup.
Be on time. If the interview is10AM, be there at 945.
Be confident/ Believe in yourself. starting right now.
To be safe, answer their questions honestly, in as few words as possible.
They may ask, do you have any problems getting to work on time, or how flexible are you. If you are supposed to start at 9AM, it is important you be at your work station at 9AM,they don't want to have to be wondering where you are.
They might not have you scheduled to work Friday night, but if someone is off sick can they ask you to come in on short notice? Saying, "no, my friends and I go out Friday night" won't help you.
The will ask, "can you follow orders. " They are looking for someone that they can tell to do some thing and know it will get done.
The answer they want is "yes."
So, just relax be yourself, look them in the eye and convince them if they don't hire you, it's their mistake.
Post Monday night and let us know you got that job. Good luck.

You forgot to tell us what kind of work ,
But basically , you probably have no work experience,
Soooo , tell them you are a very fast learner and
That you are very punctual and disciplined .
( Also polite and friendly if this involves customer contact )

What they need most is some one who shows up on time
(preferably 15 min early ) and is rested & ready to work .

Make sure you are Never late or groggy from staying up late ,
That is the fast track to the unemployment line .

Get to bed early , show up well groomed and eager to start .
Good Luck !

You will be hired after an interview only if your qualifications and skills meet the requirements of the company which hires you. Check this out for information on preparing for interviews http://www.precv.com

Don't ask about money unless they bring it up, they'll probably ask you to tell them about yourself, don't say you want the job because you need money, be able to talk about the company, relate the job you're applying for to things you do in your day to day life, make sure you don't wear anything too tight or with your stomach showing or too short
