I recommend FOLIOFN.com. It's easy to use and lots of nice features. Learn more about investing Investopedia.com too.

Log on to E-trade, they have a pretty simple application for opening an account.... figure out what you're going to put into the account...send them a check. Bing bang bananas! you've got an on-line portfolio to work with!
What are you going to invest in? Need some practice?Try: http://www.top10traders.com
It's a nice " fantasy portfolio" site and you can get the hang of investing quickly...and compare your choices/returns/etc to about 1300 other portfolios.
Three people who went there after " answers" have given me a thumbs up.
P.S. There is already someone there using the name: "amuddydog" ...maybe a cousin?

You can try Ameritrade, or Etrade to start. Every brokerage has a minimum investment amount. If you know anyone that has a stock account, ask for a recommendation.
