I sent my paper work in to get a lisence to be a pharmacy tech in the state of IL. My first question is..how long does it take for them to mail it to me (until i recieve it, i am not allowed to work, correct?). Second, I want to know the pay that is given to a pharmacy tech at diffrent work places. Such as Walgreen's, Jewel-Osco, Caremark pharmceuticals, CVS and etc. is there a way i can find out??

In Illinois, you can work as a pharm tech for 60 days without a license. There's been a back-up with IL licenses. However, as soon as it has been approved, you can find it on the online license look-up, and that will count as a valid license.
Walgreens, Osco, and CVS all start at about the same. They will, for a new uncertified tech, $8-$9 per hour. Caremark in Mt. Prospect, starts a little higher.
This is the harshest season for finding Pharm Tech jobs. Many pharmacies get flooded with pharmacy students wanting to work more during the summer. All the open tech hours will be given to us because in the eyes of the store, it's free labor because corporate pays our salary.

no you cannot work in a pharmacy around medicines until you receive your certificate to work in there. and general pay of techs isnt much different unless you are certified. which you must take a test for. that can increase your pay. you can try going to the department of labor website and go to occupation outlook and in their search engine type the type of job you want info on..it will give you info about the job, pay, experience and lots of other info. i dont remember how long it takes to receive your paper so you can work.
