"Great" is tough to define. Does it refer to a movie's impact on the art of filmmaking? Its impact on our culture? Or is it just a movie that has you leaving the theater going "GREAT!"? I'll give one for all three.
The last time I saw a movie that had a great impact on the art of filmmaking was when I re-watched "Citizen Kane" last month. Books have been written on Orson Welles' achievement so I won't do that here.
The last time I saw a movie that had a great impact (or the potential for it) on our culture... Hmm... "Requiem for a Dream" I think. That is the first movie I've ever seen that treated drug use as the danger and horror that it is. Other movies treat drugs like candy, but "Requiem" had me shaking for hours afterwards. Shocking and horrifying
The last movie I saw that just had me going "Great!" was "Pan's Labyrinth". It goes to show that you don't need thousands of orcs and goblins and wizards to create a compelling fantasy -- you just need an irresistable story and intense creativity.

If you mean the last time I saw a great film for the first time it was when I saw Elf back in March (I love that movie). But I see cool films all the time cos of my vast DVD collection (which I rewatch more frequently than see new films) and that was probably Love & Death by Woody Allen with Diane Keaton.

A few weeks ago I went with my wife and my young son to see a film called night at the Museum. Is a really good film, so much so that we have now bought the DVD and watched it again, no doubt will see again, I like the part when Dextor and the guards are slapping each other - very funny!

The most recent "great" movie I've seen is Children of Men. A lot more intense and action-filled than I thought it would be. Clive Owen's great in it.

Yup I think V for Vendetta was the last movie I saw that really made my jaw hit the ground. Tho I never saw Pan's Labyrinth....
I finished watching Memoirs of a Geisha on DVD just now, and it was so good I watched it twice more.

GlengarryGlenRoss/American Beauty, these are the best character films ever.
No excessive budget, CGI, simply the finest acting and scriptwriting ever.
this is what hollywood is really capable of.
Evev though The Departed is a remake, it simply oozes quality from start to finish.
