If you don't try, you will be left asking 'what if'...better to prevent that voice from stepping in. If you try and don't succeed, you can still feel good for trying...it just means God has plans for you somewhere else.

I'd think about it. You have a whole year to decide what you're going to do...which means you'll have a whole year to practice and support the guard. It's no big thing not to make it, especially if it's your first try.
Colorguard can be trying: physically, mentally, and emotionally. Maybe this year you can have the chance to try something different. Also, use your friend's experience as a learning experience for you. You'll be around, so you can get to know the other members and the instructor. Maybe the instructor will give you some pointers for next year if you do decide to try out again.
Both colorguard and dance are great experiences. If you don't make the dance team, that's no problem either! You could always sign up for a local dance class to help you shape up for next year (and it'll probably be a lot of fun).
Just do what feels right, and don't rush into anything.
Good luck!

well, i definitely don't do colorguard (i'm on the dance team, aka poms), but i am a dancer... so i think you should for sure keep trying out. maybe you have improved, maybe they're looking for some new people, maybe they just totally missed how amazing you are the first time!!! i think it might be kind of hard to do colorguard and whatever other kind of dance you're doing at the same time. just make sure you don't get burnt out on dancing!!! or end up not enjoying either one. good luck!!

If you love colorguard and want to keep on doing it, then practice and try out next year. Maybe your best friend who made it can give you some pointers. If you're only trying out for colorguard because your friend wants you to, then you should find something else that YOU love.

Ive been in CG for 2 years and
i would say i think u should try out for Colorguard. its like dance, but we express our feelings and the feelings of the songs by using flags and not so much just our bodies. i love colorguard, and like some other girls said, its an awesome experience and and if u have a passion for it, the sky is the limit.if you try-out and make both dance and CG, just follow your heart and do what feels best. good luck and have fun no matter what!

I've taught guards for marching band shows and for winter guard competitions and couldn't agree with you more. The level of difficulty has increased tremedously over the years. No longer is the guard a backdrop of flags behind the band. They have to be adaptable to all kinds of equipment and props. This varied equipment choice can add alot to the overall theme of the performance. In the past ten years dance, body movement and facial expression have become a huge part of the performance. I have nothing but respect for all those in color guards. You have a tough assignment and usually don't get the respect or recognition that you deserve.

Alright....First off if you dont want guard other than a back up, you might as well back out. But do not give up, if you maintian that additude your just kidding yourself. I have done guard for 4 years going on my 5th. it is a lot of work, but worth every minute. Ask the director for a flag to check out (or your pal) and practice basics at home. Go to the practices! check out what they are doing and try it at home.

Only tryout for it again if you really want to do it and love it. For those of us that do it, it's a passion and you have to have that to do it and be good. If you really want to do it then go for it. The experience is amazing. And if you do try out and make it and love it, then I recommend winterguard defintely!
