Also if i buy a Linksys wireless router do I need a wireless network adapter from Linksys or any wireless adapter would work, like from D-link? Also if I buy a Linksys wireless adapter and a D-link wireless router would they work, or do they have to be the same company? Do you need a wireless network adapter for all laptops, or only for those which don't have a 802.11g/b wireless connection?

You can use any wireless adaptor with any wireless router as long as they're both using the same protocol. So if the router you buy is G then make sure the adaptor is G. Brand doesn't make a difference. You need to buy a wireless adaptor for each computer that doesn't have a built in wireless adaptor.

Any wireless adapter should work with any wireless router as long as they use the same wireless protocols, the manufactureresdo not matter. The only time the manufacturer of the router and adapters need to be the same is when you want to use what is called speedboost technology. There the manufacturers of the router and adapters will need to be the same to use speedboost.

If you have laptops with built in wireless (WIFI), then you will not need to buy a wireless network adapter for them.

Any wireless adapter would work. However I would get at least a G. Linksys G routers still communicate with B, but the speed benifit of G would be worth the cash.

some laptops have a built in wireless adapter, like the toshiba satellite newer ones. If not you need a wireless adapter. If it is wireless B or D system i recommending buying parts that all have the same letter. I think you can use a d-link card. Be careful whern setting a network up. Someone can sit on your street and steal your connection. So be sure to encrypt it. This has happened before, and it doesnt matter what card the person uses.

If it has a wireless adaptor built in you do not need another. Any card will work with any router, you do occasionally get an incompatibility problem, but this is very rare.

Additional: the types (B, G) are also compatible.
