It was the current commanding general and others who have said there is no military solution in Iraq!
What is it about that you do not understand! What about 4 body bags coming home every single day and 105,000 Iraqi Vets being treated at the VA, which Bush cut by 100 BILLION?
It isn't the Democrat's who say we have lost our global standing!
The global view of the United States’ role in world affairs has significantly deteriorated over the last year according to a BBC World Service poll of more than 26,000 people across 25 different countries.
President Bush announces his new Iraq strategy on 11 January 2007 (Eric Draper/White House photo)
As the United States government prepares to send a further 21,500 troops to Iraq, the survey reveals that three in four (73%) disapprove of how the US government has dealt with Iraq.
The poll shows that in the 18 countries that were previously polled, the average percentage saying that the United States is having a mainly positive influence in the world has dropped seven points from a year ago--from 36 percent to 29 percent—after having already dropped four points the year before. Across all 25 countries polled, one citizen in two (49%) now says the US is playing a mainly negative role in the world.
Over two-thirds (68%) believe the US military presence in the Middle East provokes more conflict than it prevents and only 17 percent believes US troops there are a stabilizing force.
The poll shows that world citizens disapprove of the way the US government has handled all six of the foreign policy areas explored. After the Iraq war (73% disapproval), majorities across the 25 countries also disapprove of US handling of Guantanamo detainees (67%), the Israeli-Hezbollah war (65%), Iran’s nuclear program (60%), global warming (56%), and North Korea’s nuclear program (54%)"
We shouldn't throw the towel in! We should declare victory and get out!

Of course not. We need to force the Iraqis to do something for themselves instead of murdering each other in lieu of a real government. Then we get back to fighting the terrorists, which is what we should have stuck to from the beginning. Our global standing will not be repaired until the next Democratic President repairs it. George Bush doesn't have what it takes to repair it, he just makes it worse. Giving up on our country is never an option! Recognizing that what is going on isn't working is not giving up, it's being realistic, big difference.

I want a definition of WIN in Iraq. The slam dunk is done. We were told that the mission was accomplished and that Al Qaeda was in the last throes. That was a couple of years ago. So when do we know it is over? It would seem to me that the fat lady has warbled her last song and it is time to leave the theater. A nice phase out should work fine. Bush can sign the bill and make it happen late in the year or they will have no money and come home earlier. It is all up to him.

We haven't lost anything; we are just not going to ever win. That's why we should pull out. We don't need to be in the middle of a civil war that's going on there. Saddam was the only guy who kept them in check and we got rid of him. Now we want to stay there and spend billions of dollars and sacrifice our soldiers' lives. For what? Oh that's right; so that you can get cheap gas for your over sized SUV....silly republican.

We should let the country be carved into two or three countries and let the people there divide and separate, as they want to.
We should get out. We have disrupted the stability and we can't take on the job of estabilishing and preserving a stable nation there. The best we can do is let each sect have it's own piece. Even that is a hugely daunting task.

Didn't we win already? Aren't Saddam and his sons worm's meat? Don't the Iraqi people have the right to order us to go home?
'Ya know...I do have a question for 'ya. Don't the Iraqis have the right to self determination? If that is true, don't they have a right to fight our occupation? And since they fight for self determination, do we have a right to fight them?
Aren't we the foreign invader and the foreign presence?

many times when doing the right thing you are going to have the critics bemoaning everything you do..leaders lead and take us where we need to go but not necessarily where we want to go..
these liberal demos sound and speak just like the copperheads and anti war compromising politicians in Abraham Lincolns time.if Lincoln had listened to his critics we would still have a divided country and slavery ...
