My speedo does the same thing.
So what's the problem?

With many newer cars, this is a normal function. I do not know what you are getting at when you say " I used reverse polarity". What did you do?

If you hooked up ur battery backwards ( reverse polarity } more than likely you fried your alternator in the process ,,, if it did infact start ! ! ! !
Get new alt and new battery and start over

maybe your rpm guage is bad
