As far as healthcare, it's the most expensive system in the world, primarily due to frivilous lawsuits. Talk to Presidential candidate John Edwards about that (he made about $50 million from suing hospitals and doctors). Maybe if we could do something about this, it would be more affordable. And, it's not the government that would be paying for YOUR healthcare ... it would be ME (taxpayers). I'm not certain I want to pay for your healthcare. I pay for my own, you should do the same.
If the government didn't subsidize corporations, products provided by those corporations would cost more (like food, clothing, energy, etc.). And, these subsidizes come from MY taxes. So, I agree with you. Let's cut the subsidizies (and, cut my taxes) so you can pay more for all this stuff.

We have the most expensive healthcare in the world, yet we rank only 36th, overall (and even Cuba has a lower infant mortality rate than the US). It is inexcusable and should be an embarrassment to all Americans.
We are also the most scientifically illiterate of all the developed nations, and our economy is going bankrupt while China surges forward, increasing its influence on world economics (not to mention buying up all of our notes and, therefore, in a position to hold us hostage, economically) and politics (China has a higher ‘favorable’ ranking among the nations of the world than the US).

I agree that healthcare is a problem. When there are uninsured children in the United States, it is a grim reminder that there are many improvements that must happen in order to make this country truly great, despite our super-inflated self image.

I think it is a travesty. We are the only industrialized nation in the world without nationalized health care. It isn't just the poor anymore, it is the middle class as well.

Yes that is a contradiction isn't it! Funny how most people still believe it. Must me the media's repetitive messages that say we are people believe. Brainwashed Americans don't know how to read between the lines!
