Yes, by far.

It is tough to find any real comparisons between the two because they are so far apart in performance.

But to give you an idea. Here is a link that will compare the ATI 9600 pro against the newer Nvidia 6800 series.

If you look at the 3rd - 5th chart, you can see that the 6800 series cards average 5-6 times the framerate of the 9600pro.

That is a HUGE gap in performance.

Now, look at this chart:

You can see that the 7600gs is almost as good as the 6800Gt and Ultra versions.

Definitely!
The 9600 Pro only has 4 pixel pipelines. It can only do 1500 in 3D Mark 05 and up to about 2000 when overclocked.

The 7600GS has 12 pixel pipelines. It can do 3900 in 3D Mark 05. It even beats the 9800 Pro here:

Nvidia is better mate! But Radeo ain't bad. Nividia GeForce is known for its compatibility.
