Ok, I just bought my new laptop in February. I love it. I was getting it because of the fact that I work at home, and it was more convienent for me to have a laptop right on my coffee table, then having to run down the hall all the time to get to the desktop. I looked into a lot of options before getting this one. I looked at all of them pretty much, the high priced ones, the cheap ones, the upgraded ones, the personalized ones, everything. then, I came across this one at Staples. It is a Compaq. It has the new Windows Vista already installed with everything you need in a notebook computer. It is awesome, and it also automatically detects your internet connections in your home with a wireless chip which is already installed when you buy it. We had to get a router first, and hook that up to the desktop, it took a few, to install it into the desktop, and everything, but so worth the time. So, it is a Compaq (a brand of HP I think) Presario V6000. It is great. Very fast on the internet, lots of security, Very clear screen, and lightweight. About 6 pounds. So, I have had nothing but success so far (knock on wood) and I am very pleased with my purchase. Best part?? I got it for under 600! Hope you get the one that best suits you!

I went through 5 notebooks in 6 years. As a fulltime student and working fulltime I needed something light, fast and inexpensive. I’ve had 2 Compaq Presario‘s, 2 Sony and one Dell. The first Compaq broke down before the warranty expired and was fixed for free. Then it broke down again 3 month after the warranty expiration and was labeled unfixable. Second Compaq broke down a month after the warranty expiration day, it would have cost more to fix it than buying a new one. The costumer service isn’t that great either from HP. The next one was Dell, a great computer bat always something would fail, the sound or video card, the screen would not turn on and once the hard drive went down. Luckily all within warranty period. I got tired of fixing it and got a Sony. A bit more expensive but great notebooks. Never had any problem with it. It’s been two years and the oldest one is working perfectly. My father has a Sony for 4 years and never a problem. In January I bought another Sony VGN model. I needed something smaller and lighter so that I could carry in one hand the notebook in another a baby. I love it.
Write down a list of what you need in a notebook, what programs and capabilities should it have. What is important and what is not then shop around. There are great deals online on notebooks. Try www.shopping.com to get price ranges You can see them at the store and try them out there, then purchase online without paying tax or even shipping. Buy extra protection plans so that you are covered after manufacturers warranty expires since electronics tend to break right after expiration of the warranty. I would go with a Sony, they are a bit more expensive but well worth it. And their customer service is amazing.
